Guitarist Kyle Shutt of The Sword will release an upcoming tribute album to Pink Floyd‘s legendary 1973 opus ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon‘ on August 4th.
He will do so under the moniker of Doom Side Of The Moon and be joined by a variety of guests, that include his bandmates Bryan Richie (bass) and Santiago Vela III (drums). Also appearing are vocalist Alex Marrero (Brownout/ Brown Sabbath), saxophonist Jason Grey (Black Joe Lewis), and keyboardist Joe Cornetti (Croy & The Boys).
The album was engineered and mixed by Stuart Sikes (The White Stripes, Rocket From The Crypt). Shutt said of the inspiration for the project:
“The idea came to me after getting baked and wanting to hear a heavy version of ‘Time‘. I thought, why not just cover the whole album?
“After sitting down and working out some loose concepts, the arrangement for ‘Money‘ materialized and I realized that I could totally do this if I assembled the right band. It felt a little strange messing with someone’s legacy, but I’m treating it as a celebration of one of the greatest bands to ever rock, a party that everyone is invited to.”
Kyle Shutt‘s Pink Floyd tribute, ‘Doom Side Of The Moon‘, is available for pre-order now at this location.
The band will take to the stage at Emo’s in Austin, TX on August 5th to perform the effort in full. For now, you can hear their take on “Money” from the effort below:
