Maryland metal mainstay “Screaming Mad” Dee Calhoun is a busy, busy man these days…
Not only is his regular job the prestigious vocalist spot in the legendary doom band Iron Man, but he’s about to release his second solo album, as well (details here). That album, “Go To The Devil“, will arrive from Argonauta Records later this year.
Today’s news has a direct relation to the album. More so, really, to a song from the album, “Jesus, The Devil, The Deed“.
The song has been expanded on by Dee, and has been made into the basis for his second written publication. He has authored an upcoming novella release entitled “Jesus, Devil, Deed“, where he fleshes out the story referenced in the song in full for readers. That story is one of a broken man who petitions Christ for the return of his once devoted soul, so that he may in turn sell it to Satan.
Dee elaborates further saying:
“It’s a story of desperation, exasperation, and of where one should ultimately place one’s faith and dependence,” Dee said. “It began as a song, and the song only tells a very condensed, basic version of the story. It’s almost like a twisted, modern version of the Crossroads myth, and it was great fun to flesh the tale out to see how the events fully unfolded.“
It sounds like the stuff of intriguing reads, for sure. Knowing how Dee operates, I am sure it will be such. “Jesus, Devil, Deed” will be available on Wednesday, August 9th, 2017, via Amazon.com, CreateSpace eStore, and other online retailers.
Dee will also have copies available at his live shows. The book is Dee’s second following his 2015 writing début, ‘Tales Of The Screaming And Mad‘.

Speaking of live shows and Dee’s ongoing avenues of staying busy and creative, he recently debuted a new band project, Thee Iron Hand. Riff Relevant recently revealed details of the “supergroup”, you can find the info here.
Plus, as if all of this was not enough to keep five men busy, Dee recently contributed his speaking voice to narrate Bruce Moore‘s upcoming Christian Metal documentary.
“Metal Missionaries” is set to be released on September 1st and all indications are the in-depth exploration of Christian heavy metal is a must-see film. In fact, check out the video trailer for it at the bottom of this page.
