Finally. I have been determined to interview reactivated Maryland Doom legends EARTHRIDE for months now. There were plans laid and attempts made at this year’s Maryland Doom Fest III and Descendants Of Crom Festivals. Neither panned out due to whatever reasons but yet, the hope remained and determination never waned.
See, my reason for such conviction for the cause, so to speak, is the importance EARTHRIDE personally holds for me. To me, it is the living embodiment of Maryland Doom, hell, U.S. Doom, for the more modern age. I loved the band before vocalist Dave Sherman and I became friends. In fact, that’s something I recently addressed in a piece on the site honoring EARTHRIDE‘s ‘Taming Of The Demons‘ début turning 15 this year (here).
After a hiatus and period of inactivity, EARTHRIDE reformed this year. Now my friendship flows over to guitarist Greg Ball, drummer Eric Little, and bassist Edmund Brown. I’ve seen the band three times in the last few months and each time is as impressive as the previous. They have just released a two-song, 7″ vinyl record for Salt Of The Earth Records, titled ‘Witch Gun‘ while dominating stages all around the East Coast.
It is on their recent tour with the legendary sonic annihilators Buzzov*en that I sat down with the quartet of EARTHRIDE. Filmed on the last night of their recent tour, at The Mothlight in Asheville, N.C., I spoke to Dave, Greg, Eric, and Edmund about all things EARTHRIDE circa 2017.
