Late 2017 saw the release of The Sword guitarist Kyle Shutt‘s ambitious homage to Pink Floyd’s classic ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ album. We have an update!
Doom Side Of The Moon, the resulting band and album featured Shutt and a host of celebrated musicians, including his bandmates from The Sword – bassist Bryan Richie and drummer Santiago Vela III – along with vocalist Alex Marrero (Brownout, Brown Sabbath), saxophonist Jason Frey (Black Joe Lewis, Hard Proof), and keyboardist Joe Cornetti (Croy & The Boys).
That album, released on August 4, 2017, the date marking the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s own ‘Piper At The Gates Of Dawn’ release, landed at #81 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Now, Doom Side Of The Moon has issued the surprise EP, ‘Encore‘ (purchase here).
Also happening last August, Doom Side Of The Moon played their first-ever live dates. At those gigs, the band played their dark rendition of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon‘ along with a Sabbath-ed medley of other Pink Floyd hits. Those are the songs that make up ‘Encore’, while today also provides us an official animated visualizer for “Have A Cigar“.
Captured at Big Orange Recording Studios in Austin, TX. with the Grammy-nominated Stuart Sikes (Cat Power, The Polyphonic Spree), ‘Encore’ features “Have A Cigar“, as well as “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” (from the ‘Animals’ LP) and “Wish You Were Here“.
The vinyl version of ‘Encore‘ will arrive in mid-March on “sludged out” green vinyl, seeing all three tracks play as a one-sided 12″ single. That is now available for pre-order here.
