The supposed “meager duo” that is ORYX, guitarist/ vocalist Tommy Davis and drummer Abbey Apple, is back with the next step in its aural evolution.
‘Stolen Absolution‘ will officially arrive on February 23rd from Graven Earth Records and Midnite Collective, but it is streaming here for your enjoyment today. The duo’s first offering since 2014, the former New Mexico residents felt a change in scenery would benefit their creativity, thus prior to recording ‘Stolen Absolution‘, they relocated. Some might say they went to the source, as ORYX is now a transplant residing in Denver, Colorado.
The pair clearly contemplated the advantages of placing themselves in the well-known hub for underground heaviness, the Mile High City. It would seem to have been a very smart move, as these most abrasive results attest to. The band’s sludge-steeped severity is as intensely unnerving as ever, something you should experience for yourself via the Soundcloud embedded ‘Stolen Absolution‘ from ORYX.
‘Stolen Absolution‘ was recorded and mastered in May 2017 by Dave Otero (Act Of Defiance, Cattle Decapitation, Scour) at Flatline Audio, Westminster, CO.
ORYX, along with Tricoma and Blighter, will support EYEHATEGOD at the Marquis Theater in Denver, CO on Thursday, March 1 (details).
