I don’t know why but Friday, The 13th seems like a great date to release particularly heavy music upon and New York’s Wreath Of Tongues did just that.
The quartet issued the 2-song ‘Like Rats‘ this past Friday and it’s the follow-up to last year’s ‘Out With The Good’ debut. Like it, ‘Like Rats‘ contains explosively volatile contents under pressure from the foursome born out of previous acts Nightcrawler and Hivesmasher.
If you recognize those names then you already know what danger and debilitating damage are possible from Wreath Of Tongues. Hell, just the band name alone can evoke some horrific imagery if you have any imagination whatsoever. Let me tell you this though, imagine all you want and I’ll bet it still falls short in comparison to the mercurial, aurally animated post-hardcore music Wreath Of Tongues yield.
An abrasive battering with an incessant barrage of bone-pulverizing rhythmic grooves just scratches the surface of what lies here. In the span of two songs that barely break the five-minute mark, “Reprobate” and “Enemy“, these sonics can hobble you for life if you aren’t careful.
And while we all like to stagger around in a stupor sometimes, it is not desirable to do so because you carelessly allowed your skull to get aurally crushed. This music can do that too, if this were a full-length album then I dare say that one complete listen would leave said person brain-damaged afterward.
Thankfully, Wreath Of Tongues had the good foresight to keep this assault short and to the point. No less threatening, of course, but with better odds for surviving the experience. Feeling lucky, punk?! Then, by all means, subject yourself to the sludgeoned pummeling of the ‘Like Rats‘ EP from Wreath Of Tongues now but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
In closing, you can catch Wreath Of Tongues live at the following events:
April 21 – Saint Vitus Bar, Brooklyn, NY
July 14 – The Sidebar, Baltimore, MD @ SIDEBRAWL FEST 2018
