The United Kingdom‘s atmospherically progressive sludge unit OHHMS announce their sophomore full-length album release.
‘Exist‘ is set to arrive from Holy Roar Records on November 9th and along with today’s news comes the album details and pre-order options. Accompanying all of it is the sharing of a new single, ‘”Shambles“, with the following personal insights about the song from vocalist Paul Waller (as told to Metal Hammer):
“When I was younger I found militant straight-edge guys and gals just the worst people to converse with,” says Paul. “All they would talk about is how straight edge they were and how they despise people smoking and drinking in front of them. 15 years on and now it’s militant vegans that always give me terminal earache. I get it, already!
“It’s only been in the last five years that I have stopped eating meat myself, so who am I to judge anyone else? I’m happy with the way in which I live my life and if you are happy with the way in which you live yours, then that’s ace right? Shambles is my story and mine alone; it’s why I chose to no longer eat meat and why I refuse to judge others that do.“
The Canterbury-based quintet is exploring their most immersive music yet by means of the four lengthy tracks upon ‘Exist‘. Reaching far beyond the parameters of doom and post-metal, OHHMS are fully vested in redefining themselves within the distances of these 43+ minutes.
Paul Waller further elaborated on factors pertaining to the new record saying:
“Exist is punchier musically; 40 minutes rather than 60. The songwriting is snappier and far more in your face. There is very little subtlety on the new one. (…) It’s a concept that has four tracks. Each song revolves around a different aspect of animal rights and animal conservation.“
And adds that “animal testing, veganism, industrial farming and animal liberation” are all subjects tackled in the lyrics of ‘Exist‘
