When it comes to truly harrowing, hauntingly bleak, utterly obliterating doom metal, nothing beats that arising from the Pacific Northwest region of the U.S.
The bands based there exude a sonic density that is as dark as they come and life-threateningly lethal. Seattle’s UN – lead by Samothrace bassist Monte McCleery – is the perfect example of this state of sullen aural suspension. The band’s plodding, emotionally-riveting expulsion of funeral doom music is a dismally sluggish dirge of dire absolutes.
One need seek no further than UN‘s new sophomore release for Translation Loss Records, ‘Sentiment‘, for proof of these claims. Set to arrive on September 28th, the album’s brutality is forceful, yet tempered with abundant atmospheric dynamics.
Monte McCleery comments:
“Sentiment is an accumulation of moments, experiences, and emotions: Sentiment serves as a token of our gratitude for all who struggle against the weight of their own existence. For us, the preparation of this album was an exercise in introspection, realization, and ultimate renewal of self.”
Riff Relevant invites you to indulge in the full-album stream of ‘Sentiment‘ here today – currently available to purchase on CD and 2xLP formats at this LINK.
