Anticipation for the return of the heavy rock and post-metal leanings of Florida’s groove-laden heavyweights TORCHE is growing to quite the fevered pitch, especially after today.
The Miami quartet drops a bomb of multifaceted informative proportions as they reveal details of their upcoming studio album, delivering a single and video from it, and announced a U.S. tour. ‘Admission‘ is the band’s fifth studio album, the follow-up to 2015’s well-embraced ‘Restarter‘, and it is set to arrive July 12th from Relapse Records.
With the revelation of the album details, TORCHE also delivers a new single, “Slide“, by means of an official video. The song is the first contributed composition to the band by new bassist, Eric Hernandez, who joins guitarist and vocalist Steve Brooks, guitarist Jon Nuñez (formerly bass), and drummer Rick Smith in TORCHE.
Smith spoke about the song and its origins saying:
“’Slide’ is one of the first songs Eric came to the table with, fully realized and arranged. Eric is a total beast of a songwriter. I suggested he use the first three Gary Numan records as inspiration and he came back at us with some melodically sound material that nailed the Torche vibe.”
Smith’s description of the bassist having “nailed” said vibe is no exaggerated claim, as the song’s magnetic allure exudes traits of classic TORCHE. At the same time, it builds upon the act’s nature of crafting powerful grooves and airier tinges into their music, boding well for what is to come with ‘Admission‘. This was something guitarist Joe Nuñez was happy to address, commenting:
“This album is more revealing of who we are. I think the core of the band is happier and more inspired than we have been in some time, and we’ve got somebody new who’s excited to be a part of it. It’s just refreshing. It feels right. It feels real.”
