The current pandemic has dealt a crushing blow to most of the world. We started a few things to highlight some bands who were immediately affected over the past many weeks. The plan was to continue the “Virally Affected” articles until tours and live shows started again, but the reality is the pandemic affects essentially every band, artist, music venue, festival, and all those involved in music endeavors.

Therefore, I’ve changed my mind (I can do that whenever I want). The focus is leaving the pandemic and going back on the music. All these ‘temporary’ features will become permanent ones. The ongoing “Gear Assembly” interviews are staying, random Twitter shoutout of albums will continue.

The formerly “Virally Affected” weekly roundup of bands will now be “Hearkened Heap.” I enjoy alliteration, get over it. Silly name, but serious fun. We may not be able to catch live music in person yet, but we can still bring you some heavy while we’re waiting.

We receive a bucket of daily emails about new music and rarely have enough time to cover each one. This is a quick list of bands to check out, many of whom have new music, and I’ll throw in a handful of older albums at random. Much of these bands will also be part of our monthly Spotify playlists as we go along. Listen, follow, share, grab merch or all of the above…
