Originating in Hyderabad, India, the one-man composer of HOME BREWED UNIVERSE brings his latest full-length release ‘Reliqua Mentis‘ to light next month (June 2020). Today, we have the honor of presenting a premiere of the album in its entirety for your potential listening pleasure and surprise, in advance of its June 1st release date.
Combining a blend of instrumental post-rock and post-metal interjected with ethereal synth and almost a heavy pop-rock atmosphere, the genre-bending music of HOME BREWED UNIVERSE is the composed creations of one person, multi-instrumentalist Arka Sengupta. Having started the project in late 2018, he’s since released several full-length albums, EPs, and singles – including the ‘Euphoric Entropy‘ EP (2018), ‘Instances‘ full length (2019), ‘Explorer Inside‘ EP (2019), ‘Anima Stigmata‘ full length (2019), and ‘The Time Thief‘ full length earlier in 2020.
We’re thrilled to now present his new ‘Reliqua Mentis‘ album in full. Some insight into the new album comes from Arka Sengupta, the man behind HOME BREWED UNIVERSE:
“‘Reliqua Mentis,’ as an album, is in a similar sonic space as that of the song “Yugen”. But there are lighter and darker shades of sounds in the album which, in turn, depict emotional upheaval. The album is more of an ode to a personal crisis, and how I recovered from it, than a typical sonic couture. So, the listener can expect to go through emotional ups and downs while listening to the album.
I have been working on the sound of the upcoming album ‘Reliqua Mentis’ for a long time. A lot of experimentation was carried out. What has been changing for me as a composer and a human being is that my emotional state is at constant state of flux and reflux. And that clearly affects the way I process things on a daily basis. The same goes for my creative abilities. When you listen to ‘Reliqua Mentis,’ you will notice there are ethereal melodic lines at one point and then there is heavy distortion at the end of the melodic line, and it goes back and forth. This actually reflects my state of mind over the past six months, as I am still trying to find my place in this world.“
