The U.K.’s austerely atmospheric and oft-times starkly haunting post-metal entity JESU returns with new offerings from the visual and audio realms.
JESU is but one of the many creative outlets from founder Justin K. Broadrick, whose impressive resume includes acts Godflesh, Pale Sketcher, Final, Napalm Death, Head Of David, and more. A variety of musicians and collaborators can be found joining Broadrick at times, but in this experimentally ambient vehicle, it has primarily included bassist Diarmuid Dalton (Greymachine, Iroha).
The aforementioned entertaining stimuli are delivered as JESU unveils a harrowing new visualizer, “Because Of You” (also referred to as “Because Of You: An Ode To Dependency“). With a grainy, black and white ocular treatment of winter scenery from Chariot Of Black Moth, the song possesses an ability to lull the listener into an almost dream-like state. With its tranquil emanations producing a somewhat hypnotic effluence, it is easy to feel as if one is floating, projecting an advance into a heavenward halcyon.
The single hails from the five-song ‘Never‘ Mini-LP/EP, set to arrive July 1st through Broadrick’s own imprint, Avalanche Recordings. Advance proclamations declare the newest recording from JESU and Justin K. Broadrick bends melancholic electronica and alluring shoegaze together. From there, these things bloom into a shifting, dreamy expanse of heady audibility devoid of boundaries.
The JESU ‘Never‘ Mini-LP/EP will be released digitally via Avalanche Recordings on July 1st, with vinyl and CD pre-order available then.
